- Mothmas Art Show -

SINCE 2009

OUR MISSION - To help the community of Colorado Springs aware of the talented artists and strong drive to grow the culture in the city. To bring the creative side of everyone we meet out and to share our knowledge with them. And to ensure that the artist is paid for the work instead of taking a cut for ourselves for being in "the Gallery".

- The First Year -

There was a night that we were all sitting around outside on the front porch, doing what we do best, and a Member of Team Fiasko jokingly said "You should hold an art show here at the house." And after we had all stopped laughing and joking, it began to sink in... "Why the hell not?" I thought. So I planned the art show to be held in October, which I believe at the time was a mere four months away. I called in some other artists, My brother and his fiancee, My mother, an ex-girlfriend, a writer, a seamstress, a mixed media buddy, a few painters and some other folks that i thought could stand to benefit from having a place to hang our art where people can look at it. Thinking that it wouldn't be anything more than just a number of us hanging out looking at the same artwork we'd all been looking at for the past months, i continued about my weeks prior to the show mostly as normal. I even had a documentarian living in my basement for the months prior (which to this day i am still quite thankful for). The few days before the show i realized how much more it was that what I'd thought. I had moved all the furniture out of my upper level in the house, and made room for things to be hung on the walls. The day of the show came, most of the art was up, people were beginning to show up. The show had started. It was a huge success.

I hadn't realized that the Independent (a local freebie paper) had put us as the Pick of the week. LOTS more people showed that what I had thought would. Most of us walked away from that show with quite a bit of cash. And we exposed the public to our art. I had to do it again.

- The Second Year -

After experiencing the awesomeness that the first year was, i thought why shouldnt we do this again? Still being not quite as organized as we are now, I started to gather artists together and plan out what we'd be doing again. This time I was more inclined to work my ass off to make sure that i had enough to sell at the show. New artists were added to the roster, some worked out better than others. Had a few more bumps in the line this time around but all in all we had the artwork hung and the furniture moved a week in advance. The hardest thing about all this aagain was basically gutting my house and sleeping on the floor in my studio. But the show went off without a hitch and we doubled the number of attendants. And again, we took The Independent's first pick.

- THIS YEAR -

Not too long after the show I had another artists meeting and talked to everyone about how they thought it went and what we could all do to make things better. We've all decided that a bigger venue was in order, not only because we've tacked on a ton of new artists, but to also save my sanity. We've been holding lots of workshops and practice sessions with figure drawing and such since. Check out the CALENDAR for upcoming events and other things we've got goin on. Interested in joining us? Send us an Email with some examples of your work and let us know what YOU'D like to contribute to our group!
