The Babys Room 2006

The Babys Room 2006

What a delightfully terrifing movie! I was hesitant about watching this for a while due to the fact that we have a newborn ourselves. The description of this movie was on its own, something that I was weary about watching alone.

So when molly got home, we opted to watch it together.

The story starts out with a couple who have moved into a new house and are attempting to get settled. The husband is a reporter and the wife stays at home. A visit from the in-laws produces a pair of baby monitors which the couple are confused as to why they need them. The wife however uses them anyways. Upon said useage of the monitors she hears voices and grows concerned. The husband shrugs it off and gets rid of the monitors... only to replace them with a video monitor. The husband then sees THIS one night (YEAH FUCKING SCARY RIGHT???), runs into his sons room with a knife, and as the mother wakes up, sees no one in the room other than the husband headed towards her son with a knife, runs into the room hollering.

The husband later calls police explaining his situation, they even have a new security system installed. The wife stil isnt buying into the husbands claim. The wife decides to move the baby into their bedroom just to make the husband feel better. With the monitor still pointed at the babys crib, the husband wakes up, goes and gets some water and in the kitchen notices on the monitor the same figure, sitting on their bed staring into the crib. Grabbing yet another knife and hitting the panic button he waits for the intruder to come down the stairs and almost stabs his wife in the face.

At this point she leaves calling him insane, and he becomes OVERLY paranoid, buying NINE more monitors. He sets them up throughout the house and sits infront of them shortly after. At one point he witnesses a woman murdered on the monitor but not in front of him. Then he begins to notice little things that become progressively larger change from the monitor to the house. Like that the wallpaper on the wall in the monitor ISNT the wallpaper they had put up. One of his co-workers convinces him its a parallel dimesion or a future event. At one point he grabs a monitor and camera and begins to wander through the house..

During one of these sequences he watches someone who looks like his wife get murdered on the monitor. The killers face is blurred or obstructed so we can see the terrifying face behind the murder..

SPOILER - HIGHLIGHT WITH MOUSE -

Well, if you havent figured it out by now, shame on you. The killer is actually - himself, just a parallel universe version. We watch the husband and wife fight to get up the stairs first, which is actually quite brutal,(which insludes a VERY large knife and a fairly substancial cut to the husbands hand) only to discover upon their arrival, the child has vanished. The husband claims that he'll retrieve the son, but the wife refuses to believe him. So he knocks her out and goes back through the door/wall and finds his other self holding his son. We then cut BACK to OUR reality where the police have arrived and are gathering up the wife on a stretcher, she contiunes to ask where if her son is ok. We exit the building and we see the... wait... IS that the husband or is it.... oh of course it is. Its the OTHER one. Which the wife notices as shes getting into the ambulance due to the fact that he has no cut on his hand. EERIE.

- END OF SPOILER -

Overall, this movie was incredibly creepy, up to a point, and was a pleasant surprise in comparison to the other garbage ive been watching lately. If you have an hour and a half watch something worth your time.
